A strange symbol, its figure reminding one of a sharp blade ; tumis, sacrificial knifes from the ancient American civilizations… Underflesh’s esthetic is not without sense, making echoes to the force with which music can reach the mind, beyond the body. And the choice of black and white, as if to melt together in the Metal music so often monochrome the two opposed colors… Because without contrast, everything loses a part of its meaning.
Having in mind its identity, divided between two extremes, Underflesh releases its first EP, recorded with Jay at l’Empreinte (Le Noyau Dur, Sarkazein) under the name and theme of ‘Black & White’. Its music finds indeed its source at the crossroads of a rich and moving music that bands like Gojira and Hacrid may produce on one hand, and a more direct and ‘incisive’ music that bands like Lamb of God or l’Esprit du Clan make on the other hand ; yet, wiithout any pretention to be the descenddant of any of those bands. In parallel to its music, Underflesh’s lyrics try to express ideas and feelings by being simple but full of imagery, leading thus to personal interpretation. No will here to follow a fashion or to stick to a model previously definite.
The band, from the parisian area, has revealed itself especially promising on stage, where it sets its power without any tricks. It is actually thanks to its perfomances that it was opened the doors of nice places like l’Empreinte (77) or le Batofar (75) even before their EP was released !
The next step for Underflesh is to play its music in front of a maximum of people, now its EP is out, in order to share the violent and powerful pleasure that such music gives to its members, « under their flesh »…
